This was certainly one of the more surreal live rock music experiences I’ve ever had (I can also assume renowned local venue, Pop’s, would concur), being the first show I’ve attended since live music shut down 15 months prior, and the first national rock act in the area since Covid restrictions began.
It was a sold-out, intimate and socially distanced gig of 250 fans, seated at tables of four. The venue did an incredible job of complying with all current health and safety protocols, and the fans were just as commendable in their willingness to do the right thing.
The anticipation and grateful attitude of the fans all night, who willingly abided by all venue rules, gave it a calm, positive vibe, with a “fuck yeah, we’re here with our mates, experiencing rock n roll, and it’s been too long” kinda attitude.
It has been a year and a half since I last photographed a show. I was so thrilled to be at a live rock show, with one of the greatest rock frontmen of all time, that I didn’t realize three songs had been played and that was curtain call for my camera. I got some good shots in, but nowhere near what I wanted to get. I had to sit back and enjoy for the remainder of the show, no complaints here though.
